Here’s a look at the process behind painting a galaxy, I know I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately - I’m working on something big for the new year and I can’t wait to share it once it’s done! ✨
I guess hands are banned now 😩
In all seriousness though, I don’t know if they’re actually going to be removing blogs once the new rules are in place or if that was just general panic/fear mongering - so if this blog vanishes without warning assume I’ve been deleted for art reference titty crimes
Even though artistic nudity is supposedly allowed, it’s been made pretty clear from what I’ve seen they’re not going to be implementing that fairly and I’m not sure how I’m going to check thousands of posts myself
Made this for a friend who needed some help with fire animation, figured it might be useful to someone else
this is how I approach any fire animation I do timing-wise and design wise. if I am doing something more cartoony I will use shapes that are suited to more flowing smooth transitions and a nice graphic look, if I am animating more realistically I will use more chaotic timing and a design that works better with the slight motion blur I always apply to realistic fire. real fire doent flow nice and smooth like water or smoke when viewed at real-time
I almost always animate fire on 1′s, though the cartoony fire can work on 2′s, you just have to be more careful of pops.
you can also animate more realistic fire with a slower timing, you wouldn’t want the above fire in the background of a calm scene. this is just an example using an extreme case.
Hope this helps someone who is struggling to rough animate fire that fits their specific style and scene timing.
I actually did a post about dealing with art block a way back. It has been buried pretty deep in my blog. Here’s a link:

However, there’s a thing I’ve been thinking a long time, but I’ve never written about:
What even IS Art Block?
How I see it, is that our learning curve doesn’t work in a constant pattern. There is a significant time period between when we see better, and when we draw better. This is what in the art is called “Art Block”.

It’s not just art where this happens. Art is a skill, and this happens with every single skill you practice. I have similar “blocks” when playing a viola and most extremely when doing martial arts. Every couple months I have a period of time when I feel like every single thing I’m trying, every single move I’m struggling through doesn’t come out how it should. Even worse, I feel like I have forgotten even the things that I was able to do before.
THE TRUTH IS you’re not doing worse. You’re doing just as well as you did couple weeks ago. The only difference is that you BRAIN has learned to do things better, but your MUSCLE MEMORY hasn’t yet caught up with the new information. The bigger step you’re taking, the bigger block you’re having.
So what’s the answer to get over Art Block?

Cringe your teeth together and keep drawing. Even if it looks HORRIBLE just keep going. Your arm just have to learn what your brain knows already, and only way to teach it is to make it work for it. :)
idk if i’ll ever go more in-depth about each of the topics (because,, there’s a LOT of stuff to cover,, o<-<) but for now i just wanted to put this up anyways!! :,-o
